As we enter the peak season of winter influenza, a new round of influenza viruses will spread in the community, and the chance of contracting influenza viruses will also greatly increase. According to the latest data from the Center for Health Protection, between January 1 and June 1, 2024, the Center for Health Protection recorded a total of 942 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza in adults requiring admission to the intensive care unit or death, including 607 cases. Among the fatal cases, nearly 70% of severe cases were not vaccinated against influenza. About 70% (668 cases) of these 942 cases involved people aged 65 or above, including 532 deaths, accounting for more than 85% of adult deaths.
Influenza (flu) is an acute respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. Vaccination against seasonal influenza not only effectively prevents the risk of infection, but also reduces the risk of serious complications, hospitalization and death caused by influenza.

The Southern District Health Center will arrange the following eligible Hong Kong residents for free seasonal influenza vaccination starting from 29-10-2024:
- Persons aged 50 years or above Hong Kong resident (count by year of birth)
- DHCs/DHCEs/RCHE/RCHD/RCCC staff (for members only)
- Poultry workers, pig farmers and pig-slaughtering industry personnel (for members only)
Remarks: Non-members can register as members at the center first
